Aberdeen City Council Votes Against Pit Bull Ban
ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - Another attempt to ban pit bulls in Aberdeen has failed.
The American News reports that the City Council on Monday night voted 6-3 not to implement a proposal that would have banned new pit bulls in the city. Existing pit bulls would have been allowed to stay as long as they were vaccinated against rabies and licensed with a microchip implanted for identification.
The council last spring also weighed a pit bull ban but that proposal died when a vote ended in a 4-4 tie.
Supporters of a ban say it would reduce the number of serious dog attacks in the city. Opponents say such incidents should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, not by singling out one breed of dog.
