Adrian Peterson Chooses Sides in Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Situation

There’s probably no more important voice in the Minnesota Vikings locker room these days than Adrian Peterson.

The veteran running back has been one of the few positives in what’s been mainly a negative scene in Minneapolis the last few years.

So when AP speaks – people listen.

And these days he’s talking about the Vikings quarterback situation, with regular starter Christian Ponder out, and backup Matt Cassel responsible for the team’s only win so far this season.

Cassel completed 16-of-25 for 248 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikes 34-27 victory over Pittsburgh Sunday in London.

His success thru the air allowed Peterson to find some on the ground as well, with 140 rushing yards and two touchdowns of his own.

So when AP was asked if Cassel should be the quarterback he said:

What do you think?

[Cassel] is more vocal, so he was out there and he was saying it to us in the huddle and you could see guys buying into it and keeping the huddle together.

And that is all you can ask for from any player, especially in the quarterback position.

One other important voice in the Vikings locker room has a different opinion of who the starting quarterback should be.  That voice belongs to head coach Leslie Frazier:

If you are asking, our quarterback is Christian Ponder.

I don’t think there will be much discussion about that.

One thing is certain: it is not a decision the Vikings have to make this week, because they have a bye.

But it will have to be addressed before the game a week from Sunday against Carolina, unless Ponder’s ribs are still an issue.

In the meantime, we’ll see if coach and running back can get on the same page.
