Arizona State's Robert Wagner is the new softball coach at the University of South Dakota.

Wagner, the Sun Devil's associate head coach from 2006-2011, top assistant in 2015, and co-interim head coach last season, has more than 20 years of experience on the bench.

He was a part of two national championship teams in Tempe (2008 and 2011), and has also coached in the Pac 12 at Utah and his Alma mater, Washington. Wagner's first collegiate head coaching job was at Odessa College from 2003-04. He later led Scottsdale Community College from 2012-14.

Wagner was 62-48 in two seasons at Odessa, which included a 42-24 mark in year two. At SCC, Wagner won 90 games in three seasons and led the Artichokes to their first region championship and first appearance at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament.

He replaces Amy Klyse, who resigned at USD last month following 10 seasons with the program.
