EMPORIA, KS -- The Augustana soccer team lost their first game of the season 2-1 to Emporia State on Wednesday afternoon.

Amanda Wagner and Ashley Limmer split time as goalkeeper and Limmer surrendered the game winner in the 51st minute.

The Hornets of Emporia State struck first in the 40th minute when Sarah Crawford found the back of the net off of a deflection.  Emporia State increased that lead after Mindi Lozenski directed a game-winning header into the goal off of a corner kick.

The Vikings had a bit of luck getting on the scoreboard with an Emporia State own goal in the 62nd minute, but that luck ran out as the score would stay 2-1 for the rest of the match.

Amanda Wagner faced four shots and saved three while her replacement, Ashley Limmer saved one shot of the two she faced.

Defenders Liz Bunkers and Maria Cook logged all 90 minutes of the contest, helping the Vikings hold the Hornets to six shots.  Katie Hurd also played all 90 minutes at midfield and registered two shots, one on goal.

Maren Werth was the offensive standout launching four shots, including two on goal.

The Vikings return to Sioux Falls for a weekend home stand.  They play Truman State on Friday at 5 p.m. and begin NSIC play against Wayne State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
