Becky Hammon is quickly accomplishing a lot of "firsts" when it comes to the NBA. On top of being the first female NBA Summer League coach, she can add champion next to it.

San Antonio had two different summer league teams this offseason. The Rapid City native was the head coach of the main squad in Las Vegas. On Monday night, the Spurs defeated the Phoenix Suns 93-90 to claim the NBA Summer League Las Vegas Championship.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Hammon says that she was thankful for the opportunity.

"You never know what your journey has in store. You just work hard and keep your nose to the grind. You do things the right way, you treat people the right way, and good things happen. ... I'm just thankful that (Popovich) trusted me with the guys in that locker room, and that those guys trusted me back." - Hammon with Sports Illustrated

Hammon will continue to work as an assistant coach under Greg Popovich this upcoming season for the Spurs.
