Boys High School Basketball: Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School at Lincoln High School Tuesday Night

Lincoln gymTonight the Lincoln Patriots tackle the number one team in the state hosting Roosevelt.

Coach Jeff Halseth’s team lost to Brandon Valley Friday 60-53 then bounced back to thump Washington 55-36 less than 20 hours later on Saturday.

You see, the Patriots won their first five games of the season including a win over Coronado, Nevada in the Mike Miller Classic. Then had a four-game losing streak in which they lost five of six games.

“We became way too selfish,” said Halseth, who held a team meeting after the home loss to the Lynx. “We were shooting too quickly. The guys saw we needed to work on swinging it a couple of times rather than settling for the first open shot.”

Halseth says he loves the team effort and team defense. He will need all that tonight in effort to slow down the Rough Riders.  Roosevelt averages nearly 76 points a game with it’s full court trapping style.

The Riders, looking to win the school’s first state boys championship since 2000, use an undersized, yet very physical style of play.

“What we lack in size we make up with quickness and athleticism,” said coach Lee Taylor. “But we are physical in a sense of we don’t back down from challenges with bigger and stronger opponents.”

It is going to be a fun, fast-paced game.

“Lincoln is going to be a big challenge,” said Taylor. “Just like Watertown they have playmakers all over the court and on the bench. Nermin Krdzalic is as good as it gets at point guard and making plays. Adam Jaros is tough physically and really shooting it. Rector is physical athlete and if he is knocking down outside shots – they are really good. Park and Krause are only going to get better with more games played. They went through a funk in which most teams do over the course of a Double-A season and now got a big win to get out of it versus Washington. We will have our hands full tonight.”
