The Sioux Falls Canaries announced today that they acquired Ozney Guillen in a trade.  Make sure you read that right, not Ozzie Guillen, but Ozney Guillen.

Ozney is the youngest son of the former MLB player and manager and I'm hoping that Ozzie makes a trip to Sioux Falls as I'd attend just to see him in the stands, watching his son play.

We'll see how his son Ozney fits in with the Canaries in 2015.  The official release is below from the organization.

SIOUX FALLS, SD—The Sioux Falls Canaries announced on Wednesday morning that the team has acquired outfielder Ozney Guillen in a trade with the Normal Cornbelters of the Frontier League in exchange for a player to be named later.

The 23-year-old Guillen spent two seasons with the Corbelters, collecting 39 extra-base hits and 77 RBI while posting a .236 batting average. He pieced together 17 multi-hit games last season and hit safely in seven of his final 10 games. Guillen lead Normal to the post-season in 2015, going 2-for-6 with a double and an RBI in two games.

“We think Ozney will be a great addition to our roster,” said Canaries General Manager of Baseball Operations Duell Higbe. “He does a little bit of everything on the field. He is a versatile defender who can play several positions. He can run, move base runners over, and he has some pop in his bat. We really like his potential in 2016.”

Ozney is the youngest son of former Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. He was originally drafted by Chicago in 2010, but did not sign out of high school. Instead, Ozney played baseball at Miami Dade Junior College for two years before transferring to St. Thomas prior to his junior season.

The 24th season of Sioux Falls Canaries Baseball opens on May 19th against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis & Clark Park. The Birds kick off the 2016 home portion of their schedule on Friday, May 20th with a special presentation from All-Star Fireworks after the game.
