SIOUX CITY, IA -- The Sioux Falls Canaries suffered a 6-2 defeat to the Sioux City Explorers on Tuesday night, dropping the opener a four-game series at Lewis and Clark Park and their fifth straight game.

Ben Moore (9-8) was handed his second straight loss, thanks largely to a three-run rally by Sioux City in the fourth inning. Trailing 1-0, the Explorers (34-60) collected six hits and sent nine men to the plate. Sam Judah hit a two-run double to put the Xs ahead, and Anthony Kaskadden added an RBI single.

In the fifth inning, Peter Barrows led off with a solo home run to push the lead to 4-1, and Leugim Barroso added a solo shot in the seventh to make it 5-1. Kaskadden knocked in another run in the eighth inning and finished 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI.

J.P. Ramirez singled home a run in the ninth inning, but the Canaries came no closer. Ramirez was 2-for-4, and Reggie Abercrombie had a pair of hits.

Sioux City starter Cody Hall (1-1) picked up the win in his second start.

Nick Van Stratten went hitless to snap a 17-game hitting streak, the longest of the season for the Canaries and the second longest of his career.

Game two of the series is at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
