City Officials Look to Emphasize Street Safety in Sioux Falls. Citations Being Written.
A project to emphasize safety on city streets in Sioux Falls continues, and a police official says officers are still giving out warnings.
It's designed to educate the public about safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists, and Lieutenant Troy Lubbers says officers made 322 contacts during the first week.
Lubbers says 56 citations were written, but they were related to traffic stops and not pedestrian safety, and he says the message has been positive:
Lubbers says officers gave out 266 verbal warnings to motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians during the first week. The emphasis grew out of a period of time in which the city saw more crashes than usual involving people on four wheels, two wheels or on foot.
