ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota isn't being bashful about plugging its new — and still-incomplete — professional football stadium as the site for the biggest events in sports.

State officials and civic boosters planned Tuesday to announce a bid for the College Football Playoff National Championship. The game where the NCAA's champ is crowned is new to the sporting scene but already coveted by cities across the country.

If Minnesota is selected, the game would be played at the $1 billion Vikings stadium rising in Minneapolis.

The stadium that won't even open until next summer has already been chosen to be host the 2018 Super Bowl and then the 2019 Final Four. The college game could come in a year or two later, and a Wrestlemania event could eventually land there too.
