The University of Sioux Falls is picked fifth and Augustana sixth in the 2014 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference football coaches poll.

Minnesota-Duluth is the conference favorite with 215 total points and eight first place votes, edging out Minnesota State-Mankato with 212 points and seven first place votes.  Winona State was picked third overall and St. Cloud State fourth.

The Cougars earned 147 total points in the poll, good for fifth place.  USF is picked to finish third in the NSIC South Division behind Minnesota State and Winona State.

The Vikings are one place behind the Cougars in the overall poll with 145  points and picked to finish fourth in the South Division.

Coaches named senior running back Nephi Garcia and junior cornerback John Tidwell as the Cougars' players to watch in 2014.

Augustana players to watch are senior running back Dajon Newell and senior defensive lineman Jake Lee.

USF opens the season at home September 6 against Minot State.  The Vikings play their opener the same day at Minnesota-Crookston.
