Cougars Take Down Golden Eagles in Five Innings

CLERMONT, FL — The University of Sioux Falls (11-3) softball team kept their winning streak going on Tuesday as they took down Minnesota-Crookston (1-6) in a non-conference game in Clermont, Fla. The Cougars took the game 11-3 as it was called after only five innings of play.

The Cougars scored all of their 11 runs in the first three innings of action including four runs to open up the game as they put the Golden Eagles away early.

In the first inning, a three-run home run by Betsy Thomas, coupled with Kellen Dewey stealing home gave the Cougars a 4-0 lead. Dewey ended the game having stolen three bases to help lead USF to victory.

After setting down the Crookston batters in order in the bottom of the first, the Cougars offense was back at it again in the second as Bailey Bouman launched a three-run home run into centerfield to extend the Cougars lead to seven runs. Bouman ended the day going 1-of-3 at the plate with three RBIs.

Amanda Walters only pitched two innings for the Cougars, but came away with the victory, striking out five batters and only allowing one hit.

At the plate, Haley Keiser stepped up for USF as she went a perfect 2-of-2, scoring three runs and notching one RBI.

The Cougars afternoon matchup with Molloy College was cancelled due to weather conditions.  USF will now take the field next against Illinois-Springfield on Thursday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
