Crash at Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race at Kansas Speedway, Driver Airlifted to Hospital

Kansas Crash
CrashRacing via You Tube

Saturday night’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway turned very wild late in the event. On lap 200 of the 267, one car got loose and hit another car, then a third car came into the mess hard.

The result was a fiery crash with three cars destroyed and one driver removed from his car on a backboard, rolled on a gurney to an awaiting ambulance and airlifted to the hospital.

Here’s what happened: Joey Logano and t were racing through Turns 1 and 2. Something went wrong with Logano’s car causing a sharp dive to the left into Patrick. Patrick’s car erupted in flames, and she and Logano rode the outside wall until, a moment later, Aric Almirola’s No. 43 Ford barreled into the wreck.

Almirola was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center where he was kept overnight. He has been reported to be in stable condition.

The race was definitely full of action. There were a total of 15 cautions.

You know it was a wild race when I’m this far into the story before I talk about a winner. Martin Truex Jr. drove away on the final restart with two laps to go to get his second victory of the year.

Truex led the most laps at 104. This ends a hex at Kansas for him, as three times before when he led the most laps, he never won.

Brad Keselowski rallied from two laps down to finish second, followed by Kevin Harvick, Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch. Series leader Kyle Larson came home sixth. See where your driver finished.

Now let’s watch the crash:
