The Miami Heat announced on Sunday that center Dexter Pittman will be re-assigned to the Sioux Falls Skyforce their NBA Development League affiliate.  The assignment is the record 124th of the 2012-13 NBA and NBA D-League seasons, while Pittman is one of the record 52 players to have been assigned to the NBA D-League this season.

Pittman (6-11, 285, Texas) returns to Sioux Falls having been assigned twice before this season, when he appeared in 12 games and averaged 13.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 25.8 minutes.  He will be joining the team on the cusp of a 3-game stretch on the road starting with a Wednesday night contest with the Ft. Wayne Mad Ants.  Then the Skyforce head to Erie for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday.

Since being recalled to the Miami Heat on January 20th, Pittman has not appeared in any games for the defending NBA champs.  It also must be noted that Jarvis Varnado who had been signed for the remainder of the season by Miami has not appeared in any games either since gaining full NBA status.

In another curious development, center Chris Andersen has his likeness on promotional material for the team.  See an example on the Miami Heat’s homepage.  What makes that such a head-scratcher is that Andersen is on his second 10-day contract with the Heat and has not yet been signed for the rest of the season.  Flamboyance aside, a temporary player’s photo doesn’t usually appear in the top banner of your website unless there are long-term plans, unless Chris Andersen has a really savvy agent who is working an angle.
