On Friday, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the rumors of Driveclub's delay. The racer will now officially miss the PlayStation 4's launch, but Sony has plans to make it up to launch console customers.

Though missing out on an exclusive title at launch may put a small dent in the PlayStation 4's launch success, Sony isn't going to leave gamers expecting Driveclub in the lurch. Yoshida took to the PlayStation Blog to offer some compensation in the way of free titles to make up for the lack of Driveclub at launch.

PlayStation Plus members can look forward to getting Resogun for free, and now in place of Driveclub's free edition, Sony has teamed with Compulsion Games to offer the shadow-based Contrast to subscribers. Driveclub will still have a free version available to PS+ members when it finally does arrive sometime in 2014, too.

"We understand that the delay is disappointing news, but can assure you that the reason we have made this decision is to ensure that when Driveclub launches, it will realize the next-gen racing vision," Yoshida said. "And PlayStation 4 gamers will have no shortage of titles to play this year."
