NEW YORK - San Jose forward Steven Lenhart was suspended two games and fined an undisclosed sum by the MLS disciplinary committee on Wednesday for his violent play in last weekend's game against Chivas USA.

Lenhart was penalized for cleating Chivas' Mario de Luna in the face and nearly stepping on it after the defender had slid to to knock the ball away from him in the 68th minute of the teams' 2-2 draw on Saturday night. Lenhart's right foot hit the sliding de Luna's face and he grazed his head again as he turned and fell over the defender while trying to get back at the ball.

Lenhart has accepted the suspension and will sit out the Earthquakes' games against Montreal on Saturday and against Toronto FC on May 8.
