Denny Hamlin Finally Follows Up Daytona Win with Victory at Watkins Glen

Denny Hamlin started the season with the big win at the Daytona 500. Then had to wait until August to get win number two on the season.

And this win was at a road course. Hamlin won Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen International in New York.

Watkins Glen International was established on the streets of Watkins Glen, New York in 1948 and is a North American premier racing facility. The Glen has a long and storied past from its Formula 1 roots to its position as New York’s only home to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

This was Hamlin's first time winning a road course. This was the second straight year in NASCAR that the Daytona 500 winner also took The Glen, with Joey Logano doing it in 2015.

Hamlin came out on top in a four lap dash to the finish line in a wreck fest on the newly paved track. The race had eight cautions for 24 laps and two red flags for 30 minutes.

Martin Truex, Jr. pressured Hamlin to the final turn. But as the cars came out of turn 7, Brad Keselowski made contact that sent Truex spinning. Logano took advantage of the melee to come in second ahead of Keselowski.

2014 Watkins Glen winner AJ Allmendinger, knocked Kyle Larson off the track and into the inside barrier on the way to a fourth place finish.

Tony Stewart recovered from an early mistake of blowing the inner loop and losing ten positions in the process to finish fifth. See where your driver finished.
