High School Football Championships Features Teams Familiar with State Titles

DakotaDome, University of South Dakota
University of South Dakota

The DakotaDome in Vermillion will be a busy place this week as we crown champions in seven classes of high school football. For most, this would add to the trophy room.

After 11 weeks of regular season and playoff play, 14 teams from across South Dakota will have the opportunity to take home hardware. Out of the 14 teams that are left, only ONE team has not appeared in a championship game. Between the other 13, 62 South Dakota State Football Championships have been handed out since 1981.

This year’s lineup features three classes in which have return school match-ups from previous years. Also, one team in Class 9AA will win its first championship. Here’s a look at the numbers.
