FINAL: Lincoln 76, Huron 25

Patriots shot 53 percent from the floor in the first half to blow out to a 44-15 halftime lead.

It was over when: The Patriots (6-3) used full-court pressure and converted some easy baskets to extend a 6-4 first quarter lead to 15-4. It was all part of a 29-6 run that allowed the Pats to cruise to the the non-conference victory.

Gameball goes to: The defensive pressure paved the way for Lincoln's offense to cash in easier conversions. It was the best the team shot during this seven-game homestand. Huron turned the ball over 20 times on 17 Lincoln steals.

Stat of the game: Lincoln converted 31 field goals, Huron just 10. Patriots hit 7-of-13 on threes and shot 51% from the floor and had three starters in double-figures in the first half.

Tough break of the night: Huron's guard Taylar Rotert, who has missed most of the season with a hip flexor injury suffered in volleyball, tore her ACL during the first half. Our prayers go to her. We hope you heal quickly Taylar.

Unsung hero of the game: Lincoln 5-9 soph. Ellie Brecht continues to improve and impress adding to Lincoln's depth. She got the start and scored 12 points in the second quarter and ended with 16 on the night.

What we learned about Huron: If this team sticks together it could be a very good club in years to come with three strong freshmen playing significant time including 5-9 post Jazmin Newton who finished with nine points and four rebounds in less than 18 minutes of play. Newton's brother Terrell Newton was a Huron High basketball standout.

What we learned about Lincoln: The Patriots feel they are playing better team defense and starting to understand their assignments in defensive rotation much better. This is the shooting night they needed to gain confidence going into next Tuesday's rematch with #1 Washington. The one knock now on the Patriots come with their free throw shooting. In the win over Huron, LHS shot 8-17 at the line.
