Iowa Energy Has Lots of NBA Caliber Talent and Some International Flavor
A fifty game slate awaits and the Iowa Energy will do battle in Sioux Falls tonight to start the season. The visitors will bring a talented and intriguing team.
Only two players on Iowa’s current roster have ever played for the Energy in a previous season. Guard Patrick Christopher enters his third season for the team with last year only appearing in seven games before being called up to the Utah Jazz. Forward Cartier Martin has played 60 games for the Energy over three seasons with the last coming in 2012. However Martin has seven years of NBA experience since leaving Kansas State in 2007. Iowa drafted Martin in the first round as one of three first round picks.
Big man Rick Jackson and flashy forward Perry Jones III are in their fifth and fourth professional seasons respectively with Jones carding some time with OKC and Boston. They were the other two first round picks for the Energy with healthy prospects of making the jump to the next level.
Athletic forward Joel Wright starts his second NBADL season after splitting time between Idaho and Westchester last year. He entered the draft pool for the second straight year and Iowa chose him in the third round.
Four players spent time with Memphis during the preseason and are in the allocation category. Guard Lazeric Jones and Forward Alex Stepheson both have multiple years playing professionally. The other two are rookies as guard Andrew Harrison left after two years at Kentucky and center Michael Holyfield played four years at Sam Houston State.
Rounding out Iowa’s roster are Terrence Oglesby who is a pure shooter who was born in Norway and has played in Europe the last four years, guard Chris Tang who has drawn comparisons to the NBA’s Jeremy Lin and Terry Whisnant who scored over 400 points last year for East Carolina.
