With two weeks to play in the Summit League's regular season, the South Dakota State women's basketball team is two games out of the lead in the conference standings.  But all of that could change this week, as the Jackrabbits play at Omaha and then entertain first place South Dakota.

SDSU has won five of six, the lone blemish coming last Wednesday at Denver, as the shorthanded Jackrabbits, without Megan Waytashek and Chynna Stevens, fell to the Pioneers 77-72.  Depth was an issue, as the SDSU bench was outscored 17-3, but head coach Aaron Johnston says over factors weighed heavily in the outcome:

Friday, the Jackrabbits completed a season sweep of Oral Roberts with a 66-52 win in Tulsa.  SDSU shot 56 percent in the first half and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line.  They also welcomed Waytashek back to the lineup.  I asked Coach Johnston about how she looked in her first game back from injury:

This week starts Wednesday in Omaha against a Maverick team the Jacks beat 101-66 last month at home.  SDSU scored 51 first half points in that one, forced 20 turnovers and managed 54 points in the paint.  But they're getting an UNO team that's coming off a win at North Dakota State, thanks to a 38-point performance from Mikaela Shaw.  Coach Johnston knows this team is better than its 3-10 Summit League mark.

Tipoff is 7:00 PM Wednesday in Omaha.
