As the South Dakota State Women’s basketball team finishes their non-conference schedule, they become accustomed to highs and lows.  You could make a case that playing close to Penn State but losing is a high.  While turning around to face a lowly Delaware State team but win is a low.  The final on Tuesday night was 72 to 57 in favor of the homestanding Jackrabbits, but the spread of fifteen at the final horn doesn’t mean it was easy.

Sioux Falls Washington’s Ashley Eide hit a layup at the 13:11 mark of the first half to make it 20-5.  The Frost Arena crowd hoped a rout was brewing.  The Lady Hornets had different ideas as the game was tied with 3 minutes to go before the half.   The Jacks closed the half with an 8 to 2 run to get some breathing room and sustained a lead for the rest of the game.

For the Jackrabbits, Eide collected 25 points to lead the scoring with Leah Dietel earning a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Megan Waytashek had 15 points as three Jacks scored in double figures.  Tierra Hawkins led the Lady Hornets with 15 points off the bench and Keyanna Tate had 10 points with 11 rebounds.

South Dakota State has one more test before the Summit League schedule commences.  Georgetown University in our nation’s capital will be the next destination for a pre-Christmas engagement on Friday night before returning home to Frost Arena for a date with North Dakota State on Sunday December 30.
