Jacks Fall 59-44 to Middle Tennesee State
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee State (9-3) used a 16-4 run midway through the second half to snap South Dakota State women’s basketball’s (9-5) five-game winning streak with a 59-44 win Saturday in front of 3,035 fans at the Murphy Center.
Middle Tennessee State was led by Ebony Rose with game-high of 29 points and added 13 rebounds. Olivia Jones also collected 14 rebounds.
The Jackrabbits opened the second half outscoring the Blue Raiders, 7-3, to cut the lead to 39-34 with 17:35 left, but Middle Tennessee State scored the next five points to push its lead to 44-34 with 14:12 remaining.
SDSU again cut the lead to 44-38 at 12:53 after baskets from freshman Kerri Young (Mitchell) and Clarin. Middle Tennessee then went on its 16-4 game-winning run over the next five minutes. Rowe had eight of her 29 points during the run.
After the lead changed eight times and the score five times in the first half, Middle Tennessee State used a 12-2 run over the final 3:02 of the half to take a 36-27 lead into halftime.
South Dakota State scored a season-low 44 points and had a season-high 27 turnovers. It also shot 34 percent from the field, 25 percent from beyond the three-point arch and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line.
South Dakota State returns to action Dec. 29 when it travels to UALR for a 2 p.m. game.
