Judge’s Ruling Breaks New Ground in South Dakota

A Federal Judge ruled that Independent Gubernatorial candidate Michael Myers should have his current running mate on the ballot.

The change will force South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant to switch Caitlin Collier’s name with Lora Hubbel to reflect the actual ticket.

State law dictates that Independent candidates when running for Governor, must have the Lieutenant Governor position filled on the petition.  However after Collier stepped down to care for her ailing husband, Secretary of State Gant resisted the change.  His reasoning was that state law did not allow for a change as it does for Republican or Democrat tickets.
