Knights, Quarriers Win State Golf Championships

Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Dell Rapids won the team championships at the South Dakota Class AA and Class A boys state golf tournaments on Tuesday.

Tommy Vining of Sioux Falls Lincoln defended his Class AA individual title, winning a one-hole sudden death playoff with the Knights’ Chris Gaher.  Both finished regulation play at the Brandon Municipal Golf Course tied at 142.  First round leader Max Donohue of O’Gorman was third with a 146.

O’Gorman won it’s third championship in the last four years with a team score of 594, 13 strokes ahead of Brandon Valley.

Dell Rapids held off Parkston to win the state Class A championship by one stroke at Central Valley in Hartford.  The Trojans began the day in fifth place, eight strokes behind the Quarriers but fell short in the end.  Dell Rapids finished the tournament with a team score of 662 to Parkston’s 663.

Aberdeen Roncalli’s Michael Duch won the individual championship with a two round total of 148.  Adam Karst of Dell Rapids was second at 151.

The boys Class B state tournament is scheduled for May 19-20, 2014 in Mitchell.
