HATBORO, PA -- After an auspicious home debut, South Dakota State University linebacker T.J. Lally has been named Sports Network National Freshman of the Week for the Football Championship Subdivision.

A redshirt freshman from Chicago, Lally recorded four sacks — the most by a Jackrabbit player in the Division I era — and 10 total tackles as the Jackrabbits defeated UC Davis, 12-8, in the 17th Annual Cereal Bowl Sept. 15 at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. He also recovered a fumble on the Aggies' final offensive play to seal the win. UC Davis never passed the Jackrabbits' 25-yard line throughout the game as SDSU did not allow an offensive touchdown in the game.

Lally also was honored Monday as the national defensive performer and national linebacker of the week by College Football Performance Awards.

South Dakota State, 2-1 overall, opens Missouri Valley Football Conference action Saturday at nationally ranked Indiana State. Kickoff is set for 2:05 p.m. Eastern Time (1:05 p.m. Central) at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute, Ind.
