The Hy-Vee/Sanford Legends program provides learning opportunities for young student-athletes to grow and be inspired by providing different sporting clinics and camps. Each year, celebrity athletes who represent the Legends goals—quality, integrity and character—are brought to Sioux Falls.

More than 4,000 participated in 2016 Legends events:

The $185,000 will support the football camp grant program (high school teams who supported the Legends Football Camp) and the free sports clinics grant program (youth sports organizations).

Youth sports organizations are encouraged to apply for upcoming grants by Oct. 28. Priority is given to projects and organizations that have substantial volunteer involvement and missions that support those of Legends. The registration form will be available at legendsforkids.org on Aug. 27.

New to Legends for 2016 was the Legends for Kids Scholarship, which was developed to honor graduating high school seniors for exceptional character in leadership in athletics and school involvement. The scholarship program was created by Hy-Vee, Sanford Health and First PREMIER with support from Argus Leader Media and KELOLAND Television.

The program handed out six $5,000 scholarships in 2016 and will expand to eight for 2017. Recipients must use the scholarships for post-secondary education. Nominations for the 2017 scholarship program can be made by coaches, teachers and administrators from Sept. 12 to Nov. 17. Nomination forms will be available on legendsforkids.org.
