MANKATO, Minn. (AP) - When David Kahn set his sights on bringing Brandon Roy to the Minnesota Timberwolves, he may have had an ace up his sleeve that made all the difference.

Point guard Will Conroy is one of Roy's best friends dating back to high school. He had a brief tryout with the Wolves last year and knows Kahn well from their days together in Albuquerque with the NBDL. Conroy also played briefly in Houston for current Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman.

So when Roy decided to make a comeback after sitting out last season with chronic knee pain, Conroy immediately recommended the Wolves.

Roy signed a two-year deal with the Wolves, and now Conroy is trying to join him in Minnesota. He is with the Wolves in camp on a tryout.
