It's really not too early to be thinking about camping, especially with the numbers of people wanting to do it continuing to increase.  The numbers are in, and camping in South Dakota's state parks reached an all-time high in 2014.

With an increase of 3.8 percent, South Dakota's State Game, Fish and Parks Department says about 290,000 nights of camping were recorded last year in the state parks.

Sheps Canyon and Fisher Grove are just two of the State Parks that saw notable increases in camping numbers. Just southeast of Sioux Falls, Good Earth, South Dakota's newest state park had an increased visitation of 27 percent in 2014.

Director of the Division of Parks and Recreation, Doug Hofer is expecting 2015 to be busy at the state parks.  One reason for an increase this year is because of the 50th Anniversary of the Buffalo Roundup at Custer State Park.

If you and your family would like to enjoy the great South Dakota state parks in 2015, make sure you reserve your campsite early.
