Martin Truex, Jr. had the dominant car at Kentucky Speedway in Saturday night’s Quaker State 400. He scored his third NASCAR Cup win of the season.

In doing so, he ties Jimmy Johnson for the most wins this year. Johnson, the seven time series champion, had a decent car Saturday, but crashed a third of the way thru the race by no fault of his own.

Kentucky is one of three active tracks that Johnson has never won on. Maybe a jinx one may believe, a crash between Brad Keselowsi and Clint Bowyer, caught Johnson with no where to go but right into them on lap 88, and he was done for the night.

Truex as mentioned, was totally dominant. His lead was by a bunch, 15 seconds to be exact, as the final laps were winding down. At that point, any leader is getting very nervous about a caution coming out that can spoil the whole deal.

As Truex, way out front, was on edge and he knew it was coming. And it did when Kurt Busch blew an engine dumping oil on the track.

This was with just over one lap to go and only eight cars on the lead lap. All of the other seven came in for fresh tires under the caution, and only Truex stayed out on the track.

With a good shove from Kyle Larson, Truex powered to the lead on the restart. Then a crash behind him froze the field with Truex in the lead.

Kyle Larson in second was sensational in this race. He started way back at 40th due to not passing inspection before the race. He raced all the way up to third, then got sent to the back of the field for speeding on pit road. He again charged thru the field coming all the way up to second.

Chase Elliott came home third, followed by Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch. See where your driver finished.
