The Minnesota Golden Gophers haven't been to a bowl game in two years, and that changed with their fast 4-0 start and finished 6-6 to make a bowl for the first time under Jerry Kill.

The Gophers will face the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Houston on December 28 at 8 p.m. on ESPN. The game also has a 1.7 million buyout.

In 2006, the Gophers faced the Red Raiders in the Insight Bowl under Glen Mason and lost 44 to 41 in overtime. The Gophers let a 31 point lead slip away, which is the largest in FBS bowl history.

The Gophers this season have averaged 171.4 passing yards (108th), 146.1 rushing yards per game (81st), while scoring 21.3 points (99th), and giving up 23.9 (39th) points per game.

The Red Raiders this season have averaged 361.9 passing yards (2nd), 139.5 rushing yards (88th) per game, while scoring 37.8 points (16th), and giving up 31.8 (93rd) points per game.
