MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have sent designated hitter Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.

On Sunday, he was left out of the starting lineup for the second straight game and was instead a late-inning replacement. Vargas has three hits in his last 12 at-bats and saw his batting average dip slightly to .248. Manager Paul Molitor says Vargas is being sent down less to improve his mechanics, and more to work on his mental approach.

The Twins will play a two-game series Tuesday and Wednesday at Pittsburgh, a National League city where there will be no DH.

— Minnesota Twins utility man Eduardo Nunez will be activated for Minnesota's upcoming interleague series at Pittsburgh.

Nunez has been on the 15-day DL with an oblique injury, but has taken batting practice Sunday. He was hitting .409 with two RBI in 22 at-bats before going on the DL.
