EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Veteran defensive tackle Kevin Williams has been picked by Minnesota Vikings players as the team's recipient this season of the Ed Block Courage Award.

The honor was announced Wednesday. Williams said he "was a little surprised" when he found out but noted his appreciation that his teammates "think that highly" of him. Williams has made a strong impression on the Vikings over the years with his production, durability and understated leadership. This is his 11th season, and his tenure is the longest on the team.

The Ed Block Courage Awards are given annually to a player on each NFL team who exemplifies commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage. Extra efforts on and off the field and the overcoming of adversity are part of the criteria.
