YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — Missouri Valley Football Conference officials are pleased with a proposal that would result in fewer league teams meeting early in the playoffs.

Last year, five conference teams qualified for the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, and they all were placed on the same side of the 24-team bracket. That ensured they would knock one another out early.

The Yankton Daily Press and Dakotan reports that proposals going before the NCAA Division One Council in October are aimed at spreading out teams from the same conference and avoiding rematches from the regular season in early playoff rounds.

Conference Commissioner Patty Viverito says the proposal would make the playoffs more national in scope, rather than regional.
