The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without star forward Kevin Love for 6 to 8 weeks, according to team officials.

The team says that Love broke his hand while working out Wednesday morning. They say that Love will go to New York this week for a second opinion on his injury.

A season with promise and expectation has already been dealt yet another blow, who already will be without star point guard Ricky Rubio for at least the first six weeks while he recovers from a torn ACL in his left knee he suffered last season.

6-8 weeks in an NBA season means Love will miss close to 20 games or a quarter of the season.

Love has emerged averaging 26.0 points and 13.3 rebounds per game last season and is a respected 3-point shooter now while maintaining his impressive work on the glass.

The Wolves can send Love and Rubio to Sioux Falls for rehab stints with the Skyforce of the NBA D-League.
