NBC's Brian Engblom on Blackhawks-Blues, and San Jose Sharks

NHL on NBC analyst Brian Engblom joined Jeff Thurn on Monday's edition of Overtime.

Engblom is covering the Chicago and St. Louis series, and offers his take so far as the Blues have jumped out to an early series lead.

"It could have gone either way. Both teams have had their time when they have dominated play and the other team has really slipped. The bottom line is St. Louis has found a way to win late in two games. On Chicago's side of that, once you give up a lead, it's not great. Now, they've done it twice, losing in overtime both times. So, they've given up goals to have the game tied in under two minutes and then they lose in overtime. You can say it's close obviously, but it's slipping away from them. So, they have to shore that up because they only get so many chances at this. With Seabrook out of the lineup, it's going to affect them a lot, how they rearrange their defense and how well they back there without Seabook is going to be interesting, who gets a lot of ice time. On St. Louis' side, a tremendous amount of confidence has been built because of the fact they have come from behind, have never given up and pulled those games from the fire. Now, they have to play an even better game, according to Ken Hitchcock, in this very tough Chicago United Center building."

Chicago defeated St. Louis, 2-0 tonight, despite Brent Seabrook's three-game suspension. Chicago trails St. Louis, 2-1 in the series.

Engblom talks about if he is surprised by the way the NHL playoffs have started?

"I would go with San Jose, not because of the fact they are up a couple of games, but the scores they have put up. They've scored a lot of goals against L.A., and obviously L.A. has some work to do. San Jose has found an answer for Jonathan Quick, who is one of the top goalies in the game for sure and won the Stanley Cup two years ago. So, they really moved him around the top of the net. They were really going high on him, but they moved him side to side, which you have to do with a lot of goalies, especially Quick. I would say because San Jose has scored so many goals, that would be my biggest surprise, or got my attention the most.

San Jose has won the first three games, 2-1, 6-3, and 7-2. The two teams play again Tuesday night, as Los Angeles is facing elimination.
