LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Terran Petteway is skipping his senior season at Nebraska and declaring for the NBA draft.

Petteway was the leading scorer in the Big Ten as a sophomore and was fourth this past season. The guard's 18.1-point career scoring average ranks second in program history.

Petteway began his college career at Texas Tech. He made his announcement Thursday from Galveston, Texas, where he was with his family following the death of his mother last week.

Petteway thanked fans for their support and said it was a "bittersweet" decision because Lincoln has become a second home to him. Coach Tim Miles said he had hoped Petteway would return next season but he supports the decision.

Nebraska's Walter Pitchford also has declared for the draft.
