Football and volleyball seasons are in mid-season strides with tennis, golf and cross country on the back sides of regular seasons.

Meanwhile, futbol is gearing up state title runs in South Dakota. That's right, the road to crowning high school soccer champions begins this week.

Pairings for the inaugural SDHSAA Soccer Playoffs have been finalized, with six teams from each division advancing to post-season play.

In the girls’ division, top-seeded Aberdeen Central and second seed Sioux Falls O’Gorman have automatically qualified for the State Tournament. Meanwhile, sixth-seed Sioux Falls Christian will travel to third-seed Groton Area and fifth-seed Mitchell will head to Rapid City to take on St. Thomas More in a pair of play-in contests later this week.

On the boys’ side, undefeated top seed Sioux Falls Christian and second seed Groton Area have earned automatic berths into their half of the State Tournament. Play-in contests on the boys’ side will feature fifth-seed James Valley Christian at fourth-seed Aberdeen Central and sixth-seed St. Thomas More at third-seed Sioux Falls O’Gorman.

The Inaugural SDHSAA State Soccer Tournament will be played October 4 & 5 in Aberdeen at Clark Swisher Field on the campus of Aberdeen Central High School.
