ABERDEEN, SD -- A steal and free throw in the closing seconds by Platte-Geddes' Coby Johnson's preserved a 59-56 win over Ethan Friday in the semifinals of the South Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.

Johnson stole the ball from Blake Bartscher as he worked toward a potential game-tying basket with 5 seconds left. Johnson made one free throw with .6 seconds left.

Johnson finished with 19 points for the Black Panthers (19-6). Carter Dytkstra had 23 points and six rebounds. Kole Heller added 11 points.

Bartscher finished with a game-high 25 points for the Rustlers (21-4). He was 8-for-20 from the floor and had three 3-pointers.

Camden Myers had 18 points and nine rebounds.

 

SEMIFINALS
JAMES VALLEY CHRISTIAN 72, POTTER COUNTY 55
ABERDEEN, SD -- James Valley Christian beat Potter County 72-55 Friday to earn a berth in its first title game at the South Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.

Nathan Wedel led the way for the Vikings (24-1) by scoring 24 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. He was 7-for-18 from the field and 9-for-11 from the free throw line.

Alex Waldner and Andrew Ulvestad added 17 points each. Ulvestad also had eight rebounds and six assists.

James Valley Christian shot 55 percent from the field.

Caleb Meinke led Potter County (22-3) with four 3-pointers and 19 points. Chayce Hall had 10 points and four assists.

CONSOLATION SEMIFINALS
FAITH 62, CENTERVILLE 45
ABERDEEN, SD -- Faith outscored Centerville by 20 points in the second half to post a 62-45 win Friday in the consolation round of the South Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.

Centerville (17-8) led 21-18 at the half but it was all Faith (20-4) in the second half.

The Longhorns shot 46 percent, led by Tyler Hohenberger's 18 points. Josh Asdahl and Rio Hulm had 11 points each. Hohenberger grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Tornadoes shot just 28 percent. They were led by Rory O'Malley's 12 points and Tyrell Martz's 11.

Seamus O'Malley had a game-high 12 rebounds.
