President Obama Praises WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx for Setting Example for Girls

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says this year's WNBA champions set an "outstanding example" for young women everywhere.

Obama marked the Minnesota Lynx's victory in the 2015 championship during a ceremony at the White House Monday. He noted the team's struggles with a roster shake-up and multiple player injuries. Obama says the team didn't have a perfect season, but ended up as champions anyway. He says that's what matters.

The president also noted it's the 20th anniversary of the WNBA and says it's a time to celebrate all players. He also praised the Lynx and head coach Cheryl Reeve for their philanthropic work.

The Lynx captured their third championship in five seasons last October. The team is 13-2 this season after winning a WNBA-record 13 straight to start the season.
