Racing Halted at I-90 Speedway as Owner Joins Badlands
HARTFORD, S.D. (AP) — The roar of racing engines from I-90 Speedway near Hartford will no-longer be heard on summer Saturday nights.
The Argus Leader reports that I-90 Speedway owner and promoter Lyle Howey III recently accepted a position at Badlands Speedway.
Howey will serve as the assistant general manager of facilities at Badlands, the former Huset's Speedway under a multi-million dollar renovation. He also signed an agreement with Badlands to not allow racing at I-90 for the next three years.
He says the new gig gives him an opportunity to be a part of a number of really big events, something he never could have experienced at his track.
Howey purchased I-90 Speedway in 2006, and he says the track's early success had been hard to match in recent years.
