The St. Louis Rams have hired Rob Ryan as their defensive coordinator to bolster their defense in 2013 and beyond.

Ryan was fired as defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys in early January, soon after owner and self proclaimed general manager Jerry Jones, claimed he was making changes.

Last year, the Cowboys defense under Ryan was 19th overall, 17th against the run and 21st against the pass.

After the Rams Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams was suspended for his role in the "Bounty Scandal", the Rams had a fast array of coaches helping out in a fill in role. Going into this season, they will welcome the stability.

St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher has had a long standing relationship with the Ryan family. He played in the NFL under Rob's father, Buddy, in Chicago as a Bears defensive back and also was a defensive coordinator under him in Philadelphia with the Eagles.

Moving forward with the future of the Rams in a tough division, this addition of Rob Ryan will certainly help their chances of competing with the likes of the 49ers and the Seahawks.
