Roosevelt Uses a 9-0 Run to Propel to Victory over Brandon Valley Saturday Night
Brandon Valley (8-7) appeared to be in full control over Roosevelt (12-4) in the 4th quarter after Nic Peterson connected on a three-pointer that gave the Lynx a ten point lead. Appearance can be deceiving though.
Following the Peterson three, Roosevelt sparked a run outscoring Brandon Valley 9-0 within the next minute of the game. Three possessions, three straight three-pointers for the Rough Riders coming off the hands of Colton Kooima (10 points), Josh Kirkwold (8), and Chris Phillips (15).
Jason Spicer (9) connected on the last field goal of the game, making the game tied at 44. Following that basket, Roosevelt completed six free-throws, compared to three for Brandon Valley, in route to a 50-47 victory on Saturday night.
Brandon Valley had plenty of chances to seal the game, but were not able to capitalize. Jacob Adams was a beast on Saturday night, scoring 22 total points, and had a great look from downtown as the game clock expired. Adams was just inches away from sending the game to overtime.
For the Lynx, this game falls in line with how the rest of their season has played out. With a 8-7 record, Brandon Valley has only defeated one team with a winning record this season. That victory came against Yankton back on January 11th, a three point win. On the flip side, the Lynx have only lost one game to teams with a losing record, which was a 50-46 decision to Watertown. In games against teams with winning records that they lost, Brandon Valley has lost by an average of eight points.
The general feeling after the game last night was that Roosevelt was happy to get the win after starting out slow, but a comeback victory was extra beneficial. As a team, the Riders shot just 24% in the first half and went 0-9 from the three point line. The team impressively rallied back late in the game for the win.
The game itself turned out to be one of the more exciting games of the season so far. If this is a preview of the upcoming Class AA District and the State AA Tournament, we are in for a real treat.
