Some people call it rugby, and some people call it the big brother of American football. One of the oldest organized sports in history has lasted the test of time and is alive and well. Just as the sport thrives across the globe, rugby is thriving locally here in the Sioux Empire and it's ready for you.

Have you ever been curious about the sport of rugby? Do you crave the thrill of exciting competition? Do you long to be a part of a close knit competitive family? For any women of the Sioux Empire who answered yes to any of those questions, the Sioux Falls Phantoms women's rugby club has the opportunity for you. They are looking for women to join their passionate team and anyone who is interested may join.

Founded two plus years ago, the Sioux Falls Phantoms have been active not only in the rugby world but in the Sioux Empire community as well. Together the Phantoms have been active in supporting local charities through 5K’s as well as supporting other women’s organizations.

The Phantoms have fully embraced the team aspect of rugby and are more than just a competitive team, they’re a family. A close knit family that embodies successful teams and communities, the Phantoms are always looking to grow their team with players of all sizes and abilities. The ability to utilize the strengths of every player is what the Phantoms do best.

“We’re a very close and social group. Other sports will go out, fight each other and hate each other afterwards but with rugby you go out, compete but in the end we come together as a family,” said Phantoms back captain Haley Dedula. “Rugby offers people the chance to come together and have an outlet from the stresses of their daily lives,” Dedula explained

“It’s very addicting and no matter how hard it gets, playing rugby is so rewarding,” stated current president Brittany Salisbury.

The Phantoms take their competitive spirit and skill all over traveling as far as Minneapolis, Omaha, St. Cloud and more. They take part in the yearly “March Madness” tournament in Wayne Nebraska which is one of the largest rugby tournaments in the country and the Phantoms’ personal favorite.

So if you if you feel the urge to join or have thought about it but are not sure, stop by for a practice every Wednesday at Marion Park starting at 6:00pm and meet the team or you can take to social media to find them. You can go to their Facebook page www.facebook.com/sfwomensrugby or you can catch them on twitter @SFPhantomRugby for more information on match and practice times as well as contact information.

The Sioux Falls Phantoms would love the support and would love to expand their family of passionate rugby players. Come witness and experience the thrill of rugby.

The Phantoms are back in action on October 3rd as they head to SDSU. They also have even more events coming up in October including a costume match!
