SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Kyle Ruwe threw another gem, and the Sioux Falls Canaries remained undefeated against the Gary SouthShore Railcats with a 5-2 win on Thursday night at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Canaries (24-35) previously swept the RailCats (34-24) in three games and won the opener of a four- game series before 3,560 fans at the Birdcage, their sixth straight home victory.

Ruwe (7-5) continued a dominant stretch in which he has gone 4-0 in his last five starts. After giving up a two-run home run in the first inning to Ryan Babineau, Ruwe shut out the RailCats through the eighth inning. He scattered nine hits, walked one and struck out five.  Ruwe has given up just three runs and walked only one man in his last three starts (24 1/3 innings pitched).  Alan DeRatt tossed a perfect ninth inning to collect his 13th save of the season, tied for second most in the league.

The Canaries scored five unanswered runs after the early 2-0 deficit, starting with Jared Clark’s RBI single to plate Kevin Dultz in the third inning.

In the fourth, J.P. Ramirez reached on a two-base error, Dultz had an infield single, and Anthony Trajano brought both men home with a double down the right field line, giving the Canaries a 3-2 lead.

In the seventh inning, Marcos Rodriguez’ two-out, two-run single padded the Canaries advantage.

Dultz and Trajano each led the Canaries with two hits.

RailCats starter Alain Quijano (8-4) entered the game tied for the league lead in wins. The Canaries and Ruwe beat Quijano for the second time in a rematch from June 8 in Gary. He lasted 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits. He walked one and struck out five.

The four-game home series continues at 7:05 p.m. on Friday at Sioux Falls Stadium.
