FARGO, ND -- The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (42-55) did their damage early and late against the Sioux Falls Canaries (32-66) on their way to a 10-4 win.

Scoring five runs in the first three frames and five more runs in the eighth inning, Fargo was carried by leadoff man Frank Salerno and his four base hits, including a homerun, a triple, two doubles and 4 RBI.

Chris Duffy tied the game at 1 with solo homer in the second inning, his 15th of the season.  But after three innings Fargo held a 5-1 edge.

That score wouldn't change until the eighth when the Canaries pulled to within a run, 5-4, thanks to RBI doubles from Chris Valencia and Sam Lind and another run driven in by Steven Branca.  That momentum would not last as Joe Testa, who relieved Joe Bircher to start the bottom of the eighth, allowed five runs in the bottom half and led to the final 10-4 score.

Brian Ernst (9-6) pitched into the 7th inning and allowed just one to earn the win for Fargo.

Bircher (4-8) took the loss despite finishing his day strong, holding Fargo scoreless over his final four innings.  Overall, Bircher finished his day having allowed five runs in seven innings and did not walk a batter.

The series continues Sunday evening at 6:00 PM.
