The Sioux Falls Canaries snapped their eight-game losing streak on Thursday afternoon, defeating the Gary-Southshore Railcats by the final score of 10-2 in front of 1,924 fans at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Birds’ took their only lead of the day in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five runs on four hits against Railcats starting pitcher Karl Triana. The big inning was capped off with Ryan Lashley knocking in a pair of runs with a two-out double before Michael Pair launched a two-run homerun over the wall in right to make it 5-0.

Triana faced eight Canaries batters in the first inning, but managed to settle in, giving up just four hits over his final fiving innings of work. The Railcats starting pitcher suffered his third loss of the season after allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out three batters over six innings.

Canaries starting pitcher Misael Siverio was fantastic in his sixth start of the season, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven batters over seven innings of work. The Cuban left-hander retired his first six batters of the game before giving up a leadoff homerun to Jose Gonzalez in the top of the third inning. Siverio also gave up a solo homerun to Tillman Pugh in the top of the sixth inning, his final run of the night.

The Canaries offense collected 14 hits, including five extra-base hits in the win. Pair put together his best offensive day of the season, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a homerun, and three RBI. Lashley also had a good day, going 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI.

Blake Schmit put together his 15th multi-hit game of the season, extending his hitting streak to 11 games after going 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.

The win on Thursday afternoon snapped the Canaries eight game losing streak, their longest of the season. It was the first win since their June 6th road win in Lincoln, and the first home win for the Birds since defeating the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks with a 2-1 walkoff win on Friday, June 3rd at the Birdcage.

The Canaries hit the road for a six-game roadtrip starting with a three-game weekend series against the Joplin Blasters. The Birds will turn to RHP Shawn Blackwell in the series opener, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM at Joe Becker field in Joplin, Missouri.
