SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The Sioux Falls City Council has decided against holding a special election next spring on the issue of snowgates in the city.

A resolution to call a special election in May failed 3-5 Tuesday after more than an hour of discussion. The vote tables the issue until the city's general election in 2014.

Snowgates are devices that attach to snowplows and are designed to prevent driveways and intersections from being blocked by mounds of snow pushed up by the plows.

Citizens gathered more than 8,000 signatures on a petition asking the city to consider the devices.
