SIOUX FALLS - On Tuesday at around 11:30 a.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 2800 W. Costello Rd.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the patio door at the rear of the house.  Upon entry crews encountered heavy smoke and heat in both the basement and main floor of the house.

Crews got the fire under control in about 20 minutes and remained on scene and extinguished hot spots and checked for fire extension over the next two hours.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 21 personnel in 6 fire trucks, and two support vehicles.  Fire Crews were assisted by Sioux Falls Police, Public Works, Rural Metro Ambulance, Mid American Gas, and the Red Cross.

Sioux Falls Fire would like to remind residents to change the batteries in all smoke detectors twice annually, and check them on a regular basis.
