For a vast majority of professional basketball players the goal is to play in the NBA. For Casey Mitchell, the plan is to reacquaint himself with the NBA Development League and use that avenue to get the ultimate destination.
After spending parts of two seasons overseas, the 6-4 shooting guard has returned to the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He is with the team and will don the Skyforce colors against the Idaho Stampede Tuesday night.
A third round NBADL draft choice in 2011, the West Virginia product proved his worth by leading Sioux Falls in scoring (19.6 points per game) for the first half of the season. Mitchell also spent time with the Houston Rockets after the conclusion of the NBA lockout in a truncated fall camp.
Casey then left Sioux Falls in early February 2012 to play overseas with stops in Slovenia, Greece and Germany. Mitchell was released from his contract from the New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig in December because of injury and family reasons. To make room for Mitchell on the roster, the Skyforce waived center Will Foster. Since February 23rd, the Skyforce have seen five new players grace their lineup with the additions of Sean Tarver, Andre Barrett and James Mays plus the assignment of Jarvis Varnado from the Miami Heat.
